Instrument Engineer / Supervisor

Objective/Purpose of Job
Hands-on, experienced Instrument Supervisor responsible for leading and coordinating maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability enhancement, and upkeep of field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, PLC/DCS/ESD systems, and package units. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations through effective execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs, contractor supervision, resource utilization, inventory management, and compliance with HSE, PSM, and operational excellence standards. The incumbent will support plant operations, shutdowns, commissioning activities, and reliability improvement initiatives while developing and mentoring maintenance personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise daily maintenance activities related to field instruments, analyzers, control valves, PLC, DCS, ESD, SIS, and package control systems.
• Coordinate with Operations, Process, Reliability, and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot instrumentation issues and ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
• Plan, execute, and monitor preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and availability.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, PSM, PTW, LOTO, and operational discipline requirements during all maintenance activities.
• Supervise calibration, testing, inspection, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
• Monitor maintenance quality and ensure all jobs are executed according to approved procedures, site standards, and OEM recommendations.
• Manage contractors and service providers to ensure safe, timely, and quality execution of maintenance and project activities.
• Review and maintain critical instrumentation spare parts inventory, ensuring availability of materials for planned and emergency maintenance.
• Support Management of Change (MOC), pre-startup safety reviews, shutdowns, turnarounds, and plant modification projects.
• Assist in failure investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain and update technical documentation including P&IDs, loop drawings, instrument datasheets, wiring diagrams, and maintenance records.
• Coordinate with vendors and OEMs for technical support, troubleshooting, upgrades, and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and skill development for technicians, assistant engineers, trade apprentices, and contract manpower.
• Support commissioning, start-up activities, reliability enhancement projects, and continuous improvement programs.

Experience Requirements & Skills

• D.A.E./B.Tech (Electronics, Instrumentation & Control) with 16+ years of relevant experience in Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Fertilizer, Chemical Processing, Power Generation, or other continuous process industries.
• Extensive hands-on experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, PLC, DCS, ESD, SIS, package units, utilities, boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, and associated control systems.
• Strong experience in calibration, commissioning, preventive maintenance, shutdown execution, and reliability improvement programs.
• Knowledge of process safety management (PSM), permit-to-work systems, hazardous area maintenance practices, and operational discipline.
• Experience in root cause analysis, maintenance planning, reliability engineering, and equipment lifecycle management.
• Proficiency in SAP PM module, maintenance reporting, work order management, spare parts control, and inventory optimization.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to manage maintenance teams, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and team collaboration skills.
• Experience in shutdowns, turnarounds, plant modifications, project execution, and commissioning activities will be preferred
