Job Purpose

Plant Financial Controller contributes to all areas of plant management and provides strong financial leadership. The position is responsible for planning and coordinating plant budget and business planning activities in alignment with corporate policies and practices, elicits information from knowledgeable sources and keeps abreast of industry’s best practices. The incumbent will provide financial direction to the plant and provide recommendations to improve site performance.

Key Accountabilities & Performance Indicators 1/4

1. Drive plant performance as per defined KPI’s while building action plans to address gaps to target/standard
2. Develop a documented system of cost accounting policies and procedures, considering appropriate internal controls, related to cost accounting function specifically to standard costing, inventory count, inventory valuation, reserves, etc.
3. Review that standard cost is in-line with expected experiences for material, labor and overhead for all production orders. Highlight manufacturing and yield variances. 
4. Support analyses of potential excess and obsolete inventory items 
5. Develop, calculate, analyze and report key performance metrics

6. Build manufacturing variance reports to identify any issues and implement corrective actions
7. Review and analyze inventory, margins, manufacturing variances (material, labor and overhead) and calculation of capitalized variances 
8. Completes monthly reconciliation of inventory, purchase price variances and manufacturing reports highlighting product rework, manufacturing efficiencies and capital expenditures
9. Prepares estimates of new and proposed product costs
10. Partner with Operations on the coordination of Physical Inventory 
11. Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory/Cost Accounting and Revenue Recognition

12. Manage month-end and year-end closing and prepare monthly / yearly financial statements and other operational reports for site 
13. Prepare forecasts of income statement, balance sheets, and statement of cash flows for the Plant 
14. Must work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant and company objectives 
15. Integrates and trains new staff while leading the continued professional development of the existing team 

16. Shares best practices across the company / group finance team, e.g., process improvements, financial modeling, and procedures changes 

17. Analyze variances and communicates explanations to management with recommended actions

18. Provides proactive / unsolicited consultation, interpretation, and education of complex financial and operational matters to various departmental leaders driving business decisions 
19. Collaborates with General Manager, Plant accountants and senior management to explain results, make improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, understand operations, and lead the development of complex analysis
20. Monitor and implement plant internal controls (in conjunction with corporate policies) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets, and identify risks
21. Ensures proper accounting in accordance with GAAP as well as local statutory requirements
22. Estimate product costs to support quoting activities

Bachelors in Accounting
Masters in Finance or Business Administration

Certifications

Chartered Accountant from ICAP
Chartered Accountant from ICAEW

Professional Experience

At least 10 years’ experience in manufacturing accounting 

Cost accounting experience
